Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has explained why the club decided to play their DSTV Premiership match against Chippa United so soon after Luke Fleurs death.
Luke was slain in a hijacking on Wednesday, which shocked the football community, particularly those at the Chiefs.
The former Ubuntu and Supersport UTD defender only joined Kaizer Chiefs last season and was yet to make his debut for the club.
Motaung stated that they spoke with the players and that it was their decision to continue playing the game in tribute of Fleurs.
“The boys have committed now.More than ever, as I have stated, they recognise the opportunity they have,” Motaung remarked on Game On.
As I mentioned earlier, it’s a case of, ‘Guys, you have to let us know how you are feeling, where’s your head at,’It aches.
“They understand that they have a responsibility not only to their families, but also to the larger Khosi nations, all of the millions of admirers that revere them on a daily basis.
They have a responsibility to Luke’s family and to Luke himself, and they have taken it upon themselves to say, “We are ready to fight; we are lifting our heads and marching forward,” demonstrating their commitment and readiness to face Chippa UTD.
