Baroka players and coach Dan Malesela celebrated Ananias Gebhardt’s 150th appearance for the team.
Ananias Gebhardt, captain of Baroka, considers himself fortunate to have made 150 appearances for Bakgaga.
Gebhardt, who joined Baroka from Jomo Cosmos in July 2018, played his 150th game for the club last Tuesday when they were defeated on penalties by La Masia in the Nedbank Cup preliminary round in their own backyard.
Khurishi Mphahlele, chairperson of Baroka, presented Gebhardt with a plaque to honor him for playing a century and a half of games for his team before Sunday’s 1-all draw at home to University of Pretoria.
“It’s been an incredible journey, for which we can only thank God.” The club has been very generous to me. I’m a service provider, so I’ve been doing my job, which is to play football. “I’ve always been professional,” said Gebhardt.
The Namibian added that if not for injuries, he would have made more than 150 appearances. “Reaching 150 is a significant achievement.” I am fortunate. Yes, there were injuries here and there, and who knows if it hadn’t been for injuries, I might have played more games for this club.”
Gebhardt considers winning the Telkom Knockout in 2018 and helping Bakgaga finish 10th in the Premiership in the 2020/21 season to be his proudest moments as a Bakgaga player.
“There have been ups and downs along the way.” Winning the Telkom Knockout was one of my most memorable moments in a Baroka shirt, as was finishing 10th in the Premiership, our highest finish ever. “I treasure all of those happy memories,” Gebhardt said.
