Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach, Molefe Ntseki, has pointed to Edson Castillo’s call-up to the Venezuela national team as evidence of the team’s strong performance.
Castillo has represented Venezuela in six matches but had not received a national team call-up since February 2022, during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the Qatar tournament. However, he has now been included in Tomas Rincon’s squad.
Ntseki praised Castillo for his excellent form and goal-scoring at Kaizer Chiefs, where he has already scored four times in the current season, including the winning goal against Cape Town City in the MTN8 quarter-final.
“I think he has been doing very well for the club, that’s why the scouts from the national team have seen him as a player that they need to bring back for the national team,” he said at the Carling Knockout Cup launch.
“It is good for the club, it is good for Edson. We also wish him the best of luck representing Kaizer Chiefs as a brand against Brazil, representing his country as well.
“It says we are a top league in Africa, in the southern region and we are also playing good football. Because if Kaizer Chiefs is not playing good football, how would you scout a player from Kaizer Chiefs?
“The most important thing is that he is a quality player and he makes it very easy whenever he’s on the pitch.
