Kaizer Chiefs’ Johnson Spotlights Communication Breakdown Among Referees
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Cavin Johnson has expressed concern over a noticeable communication breakdown among referees during their recent DStv Premiership clash against AmaZulu.
Johnson’s comments came after a series of contentious decisions throughout the match, which ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw.
One such decision involved an offside call against AmaZulu’s Victor Letsoalo, which replays later revealed to be an incorrect decision. Furthermore, Johnson argued that Abbubaker Mobara should have been sent off for a foul and that his team should have been awarded a penalty.
Johnson highlighted the lack of communication between match officials as a significant issue, stating, “We had a good first-half, we should have scored more than one goal.
But the referees’ communication devices seemed to break down during the match, which did not help the situation.”
This is not the first time the Amakhosi coach has expressed frustration with officiating decisions. Johnson has previously suggested that referees need to raise their game, particularly after two Kaizer Chiefs players were sent off during a 2-2 draw against TS Galaxy.
While Johnson is careful not to blame the officials for his team’s misfortunes, his comments make it clear that he believes the standard of refereeing in the league needs improvement. As the season progresses, it remains to be seen whether the PSL will address these concerns and work to enhance communication among its referees.
