Blade Nzimande, the Higher Education Minister, announced this during a media briefing on Tuesday in Pretoria.
He officially began the NSFAS application period for 2024. Student funding applications opened on Tuesday and will close on January 31.

Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande made the announcement during a press conference in Pretoria on Tuesday.
Furthermore, he stated that students with disabilities will be required to submit the disability annexure because they were assessed at R600,000 or higher.
He also encouraged students to apply on time to allow for faster decision-making.
Concerning housing, Nzimande stated that the entity will launch a pilot project for universities next year.
He stated that the TVET College pilot project had already begun this year, and that the entity would use the lessons learned to improve accommodation services in 2024.
He advised institutions not to enter into long-term lease agreements and to consult with NSFAS on student housing issues, particularly for NSFAS beneficiaries.
