Sekhukhune United’s Head Coach Warns Sundowns Ahead of Esperance Clash
In a fiery pre-match statement, Lehlohonolo Seema, the head coach of Sekhukhune United, has thrown down the gauntlet to Mamelodi Sundowns.
As the two teams prepare to face off against each other, Seema has issued a stern warning: Sundowns should brace themselves for the very same time-wasting tactics they employed in their recent match.
Sundowns, riding high on an impressive 22-game unbeaten streak in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season, secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Sekhukhune.
The Limpopo-based team, vying for CAF inter-club qualification, put up a valiant fight but ultimately fell short.
Reflecting on the match, Seema didn’t mince words. “I don’t think I need to overview 90 minutes,” he asserted.
“Seven minutes—we lost the match with a terrible start, and made mistakes. I’m sure the opponents couldn’t believe their luck.”
Seema emphasized the importance of starting strong against a formidable opponent like Sundowns.
“If you start like that against Sundowns—champs, sitting on top of the log since day one—and you don’t bring your A game from the first minute, you will have a mountain to climb,” he cautioned. “At 1-0, okay, but at 2-0, you have a mountain to climb.”
Despite the early setback, Seema praised his players’ resilience. “Credit to the players,” he said. “2-0 at seven minutes at Loftus against Sundowns—you would think the game is done and dusted.
Everything was going wrong, but we couldn’t even wait until half-time to make changes.”
Seemingly unfazed by the odds, Sekhukhune made a double substitution, introducing Chibuike Ohizu and Kamoehlo Mokotjo.
Ohizu’s penalty early in the second half kept the pressure on Sundowns, who eventually weathered the storm.
Seema also highlighted an unusual sight during the match: “It’s my first time seeing Sundowns players wasting time like that and sitting down,” he revealed.
“Even the coach called players when they went down so that he could give information.”
As the clash with Esperance looms, Seema hinted that Sundowns should expect a taste of their own medicine.
“It’s one tactic they must expect on Friday,” he asserted. “They have shown them how it’s done.”
In closing, Seema urged his team to move past the defeat. “Let’s not talk about the second half,” he concluded.
“Everyone saw we created chances, we kept fighting. We were terrible in the first seven minutes, and we need to forget about this game.”
The stage is set for an intense showdown, and all eyes will be on whether Sundowns can withstand the pressure and maintain their unbeaten record.
Friday promises to be a battle of wits, tactics, and nerves as these two football giants collide on the pitch.
